The mini bulk carrier was employed in the Andaman Coast. On one of the voyages, after full away was given, while taking rounds, heard a knocking noise from one of the cylinders. Bridge was informed and the engine stopped. Found water coming out through the inlet manifold and through the air filter. Suspected the problem with the cylinder head, after stopping, inspection was carried out. One of the unit’s exhaust valve slipped from the lock and fell into the cylinder.

The bridge was informed about the problem and appraised Master that main engine can not be run. Master anchored the vessel. Cylinder head of that unit was found cracked, spare cylinder head with overhauled valves, fitted, sailing continued.
