LO SUMP CONTAMINATION DUE TO COOLER LEAKAGE
Ship was in an Romanian Port, loading. The next day morning ship was about to sail. The previous day Decarb. of main engine unit 1 was carried out, unit was boxed back Fitted all the parts and took water in jacket. The Main Engine LO cooler was also cleaned and boxed back. LO pump kept running and the M/E was kept on pre-heat.
The junior engineer on watch was advised to keep an eye. In morning it was found out that due to L.O cooler water leakage L.O with water was filled up in the M/E L.O. sump upto crank web. The entire oil was pumped and emptied to the standby settling tank, sump was cleaned and fresh oil taken. This happened due to negligence on the part of junior engineer in night watch.
