DANGEROUS CHEMICAL SPLASH
8th Nov. 04
This happened on my last Ship.
We were sailing from Egypt to Italy and the sea was rough. For dosing chemicals in the boilers, the motorman was transferring chemical from a 25-litre can to a bucket.
Due to the rough weather some chemical splashed on to his face, and he immediately informed me.
His face was splashed with water for about 10 minutes followed by first aid. This mishap occurred mainly because of his negligence in not wearing a protective face shield.
