DEATH FROM HEAT STROKE
Situation: Ship Discharging Cargo at Red sea Port in Extreme Temperature (45-47 C). Hatch cleaning in progress; Two OS have been given the task of hatch cleaning.
In the evening after work, one OS has some beers, had food and goes to bed.
Next morning on giving wake-up call OS found lying on Bed, frothing at the mouth and having high temperature.
Immediate First Aid given and OS taken to Hospital. Within few minutes of arrival at Hospital he was declared dead. Report: death due to heat stroke.
Enquiry findings: Improper protection taken during high ambient temperatures. Water intake very little; compounded by having beer, that has a severe dehydrating effect.
