IMPROPER LUBRICATION TO TURBOCHARGER
During sailing, running generator’s RPM started fluctuating, unable to balance the load between the two alternators. Abnormal sound was heard on the engine. Pressures and temperatures were normal. On close inspection, it was observed that the noise was coming out near turbocharger.
Standby generator started and the load was transferred and this engine stopped. On inspection, found that the turbocharger shaft was not freely rotating and was getting stuck at certain portions. Found the turbine side bearing not rotating freely due to failed lubrication. Defects rectified, bearings renewed for both blower and turbine side. Lubricating oil disc also was renewed and the generator tried out, found satisfactory.
