CO2 ROOM ACCIDENT
An accident occurred while the second engineer was engaged with crewmembers in shifting partially-filled CO2 bottles from CO2 room.
During the time of removal one of the bottles was found leaking slightly and the 2nd Engineer tried to stop it by tapping on the operating lever. Unfortunately the leakage never stopped.
The 2nd Engineer decided to take off the safety pin and tap again. At this time the vessel took a heavy roll and the bottle banked to one side of the bulkhead causing the operating valve to open fully.
CO2 gas started discharging and due to the reaction the bottle forced the 2nd Engineers palm against the bulkhead injuring it badly.
