MAIN ENGINE FAILURE AND NEAR MISS INCIDENT
On leaving Haldia, engine was tried out on air and fuel. Found satisfactory. Standby was accepted, engine movement was given after casting off the rope. Engine turned on air, but did not turn on the fuel. Two times tried out but engine did not turn on fuel. Informed the bridge about the situation, and on investigation it was found that the fuel pump pneumatic cut out activated, and since the air pressure was low, same could not be released.
Temporary air connection was given to the cut out, and the engine was started and moved on to Sand heads where, the proper repair was effected. On inspecting the control system, it was found that, inside the pneumatic logic box, the jacket water pressure switch diaphragm got ruptured. The pressure switch was replaced with spare one and the voyage proceeded satisfactorily.
