On a 2,20,000 DWT bulk carrier on departure Singapore anchorage, bridge reported steering failure. On inspection it was noticed that one of the HP pipes in the steering had given way. The union had come out of the ferrule. There was nothing that could be done to the steering at that moment, as the entire system oil was lost. Crash astern was given to prevent the ship from colliding with a loaded tanker. When the vessel was clear, ship was anchored the defective pipe repaired & proceeded on course.
