We were truly honored and privileged to welcome Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr., President of the World Maritime University (WMU), to our Pre-Sea campus on 16th October 2025.
Accompanying him were Dr. Johan Bolmsten, Assistant Professor & Information Manager, WMU, and Mr. Jeric Bacasdeeon, MAAP.
The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Sanjeev Vakil, CEO, HIMT, Capt. Anand Subramanian, Principal, HIMT, Mr. Kirtan S Vakil, Business Development Manager, and Mr. Tirth Vakil, Operations Manager, along with HIMT faculty and cadets.
We were also privileged to highlight the strong academic and professional bond between WMU and HIMT: both Mr. Kirtan S Vakil and Mr. Tirth S Vakil are proud alumni of WMU, and it was a moment of pride for all as the WMU President and Dr. Bolmsten expressed their delight in seeing their graduates now excelling in leadership roles and advancing maritime training in India.
A special highlight of the day was when our IMEC Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) cadets had the golden opportunity to have a quick interaction directly with the President of WMU. Such rare interactions serve as a true source of inspiration for our future maritime leaders, encouraging them to aim higher and dream bigger.
This landmark visit marks a proud chapter in HIMT’s journey, as the President of WMU witnessed firsthand our state-of-the-art training facilities, immersive XR labs, and world-class simulation infrastructure that continue to shape the future of maritime education.
We are deeply moved by the President’s gracious words:
“With sincerest gratitude for the warm hospitality and the continued and strong collaboration. I wish HIMT continued success in its important mission of building a strong Indian maritime industry and training seafarers of the highest competence and caliber for the world!” – Prof. Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr.
These words of encouragement further strengthen HIMT’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in maritime training, aligning with global standards to prepare the next generation of seafarers and maritime professionals.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Mejia and his team for their visit, encouragement, and inspiring vision for the future of maritime education.
