OVERVIEW
The B.Tech Marine Engineering is a four-year professional engineering course designed for students who aspire to become Marine Engineers in the Merchant Navy. This program can be pursued after Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, provided candidates satisfy the prescribed eligibility criteria and medical fitness standards for sea service. Admission is typically based on performance in national-level entrance assessments such as the Common Entrance Test conducted for maritime programs, along with institutional selection processes. The curriculum integrates core mechanical and electrical engineering principles with specialized maritime engineering subjects, including marine propulsion systems, ship construction, thermodynamics, electrical machines, automation, and engine room management. Structured English communication and technical training modules are also included to prepare cadets for multinational shipboard environments.
This degree is suitable for both male and female candidates who wish to build a technically demanding and globally oriented career at sea. Students seeking admission to colleges should ensure the institution is approved by maritime authorities and aligned with the standards of Indian Maritime University. Reputed engineering colleges in Chennai, Mumbai, and other major academic hubs offer advanced laboratories, workshops, and onboard simulation facilities to strengthen practical competencies. Graduates begin their careers as Engine Cadets and progress through competency examinations and sea service, leading to senior ranks with attractive merchant navy pay and long-term international career growth. For those aiming to become a Marine Engineer after 12th, this program provides a structured and industry-recognized pathway within the marine and engineering domain.
