We are proud to share that HIMT – Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training College has embarked on a groundbreaking international research project in collaboration with the World Maritime University – headquarters & IMU. Representing WMU, the project was spearheaded by Dr. Johan Bolmsten, Assistant Professor & Information Manager.
Along with Professor Bolmsten, we had the privilege of hosting Mr. Jeric Bacasdeeon, Research Student & Innovation Project Officer at MAAP; Dr. Bikram Bhatia; and Mr. K. Anbazhagan from IMU – making this a truly international collaboration.
Focus of the Research
The study conducted a comparative analysis of XR-based training versus traditional training methods, exploring how effectively Extended Reality (XR) can bridge critical learning gaps in maritime education.
For this project, our team at HIMT developed an immersive VR module on the overhauling of a centrifugal pump entirely from scratch, which served as the centerpiece for the study.
A Proud Moment for HIMT & Our Cadets
The GME Cadets from the IMEC (International Maritime Employers’ Council) Batch at HIMT had the unique opportunity to actively participate in this international research – gaining first-hand exposure to cutting-edge global innovations in maritime training.
This initiative marks a first-of-its-kind research project in India, placing HIMT at the forefront of integrating immersive technologies into maritime education.
Under the visionary guidance of Dr. Sanjeev Vakil, Capt. Anand Subramanian, Mr. Kirtan S. Vakil, and Mr. Tirth S. Vakil, HIMT continues to lead in XR content development and international maritime research, utilizing our state-of-the-art VR Labs with active participation from our cadets.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Dr. Johan Bolmsten and Team WMU for choosing HIMT as their research partner.
Through this intensive collaboration at our campus, we witnessed the true spirit of global partnership shaping the future of maritime learning.
HIMT remains committed to empowering the next generation of seafarers with innovative, effective, and future-ready training solutions.
