HIMT College had the honour of welcoming Capt. K. Rajasekaran, Executive Director, Sanmar Shipping Limited, as the Chief Guest, and Cmde. K. D. Joshi, COE & Head (Admissions & Academics), Indian Maritime University, as the Guest of Honour, for the Epaulette Ceremony of the B.Sc. Nautical Science and B.Tech. Marine Engineering 2026 batches on 6 August 2026.
The distinguished guests were graciously welcomed to the campus by Dr. Sanjeev S. Vakil, CEO; Capt. Anand Subramanian, Principal; Capt. Venkatraman, Vice Principal; and Capt. Vishal, Head of Academics.
Drawing from his extensive journey at sea, Capt. K. Rajasekaran delivered an inspiring address to the cadets, reminding them that an epaulette is much more than a part of the uniform- it signifies responsibility, leadership and accountability onboard.
He shared five principles that every maritime professional should carry throughout their career:
- Safety First
- Never Stop Learning
- Respect Your Crew
- Maintain Integrity
- Make Your Family Proud
He also emphasised that while ships are becoming increasingly advanced and technology-driven, a good ship will always depend on good people.
Cmde. K. D. Joshi, in his address, spoke about the tremendous opportunities emerging in the maritime sector and encouraged the cadets to recognise the significance of the profession they have chosen.
He reminded them that wearing the uniform brings with it honour, discipline and responsibility, while encouraging them to participate actively, handle peer pressure with maturity and make the most of their formative years at the institute.
During their visit, Capt. K. Rajasekaran and Cmde. K. D. Joshi also planted saplings on the HIMT College campus and visited HIMT’s VR and Simulator Training facilities, where they appreciated the advanced training infrastructure being used to prepare cadets for modern shipboard operations.
We sincerely thank Capt. K. Rajasekaran and Cmde. K. D. Joshi for their valuable time, guidance and interaction with our cadets. Their insights added greater meaning to this important milestone in the journey of our future maritime professionals.
